Child Development Center
The Grace Baptist CDC is a full-time, weekday ministry of Grace Baptist Church. This ministry strives to meet the childcare needs of families in our community and surrounding areas by providing a safe, Christian environment for the children it serves. Our goal for the children is to help them develop mentally, physically, emotionally, cognitively, and spiritually. Rather than a "school" atmosphere where we only work on ABCs and 123s, we feel other objectives of a quality childcare program should be to teach children simple Bible truths, to help them become socially adept, and to learn about the world around them. The CDC is rated annually by the State of Tennessee and consistently has received a 3-Star rating, the highest rating offered.
Play Philosophy
Our program is a play-based curriculum, where the children are learning naturally as they play. This is the most highly recommended learning environment for infants and preschoolers. Our classrooms offer over 1,500 learning activities throughout their enrollment, as we rotate all learning centers to coordinate with the monthly theme. Learning centers include, but are not limited to, home living, art, manipulatives, books, pre-writing, puzzles, music, blocks, science and nature, cooking, and gross motor play. In addition, our preschool classrooms incorporate learning expectations recommended by kindergarten teachers. These activities are interspersed with the ongoing learning centers and themes.
Infant/Toddler Philosophy
The infant/toddler classrooms use the "Active Learning" curriculum, which is designed to encourage development of the children's senses; language; gross, fine motor, and social skills; creative activities; and the world around them. We feel infants are open books with blank pages, waiting to be filled. Hopefully we will fill some pages with the knowledge that they are important, that they are capable, and that they are loved. We realize that these little ones are sensitive to their surroundings, curious, and ready to learn, and they are influenced by everyone around them. We understand that we share an important task with parents, as we meet physical needs, provide meaningful experiences, and give love and comfort to each infant in our care.
Preschool Philosophy
The preschool classrooms use the LifeWay curriculum "WEE LEARN" as well as supplementing it with numerous other teaching tools. These tools include outdoor play, cooking, art, language development, social skills training, music, and a variety of learning centers and activities that provide for a rich environment of experiences.
All activities and learning center items use developmentally appropriate practice – that is, each is designed to support the child's progress at their individual stage of development. In addition, assessments are performed on each child periodically to evaluate their level of learning and to make sure we offer curriculum that helps each child stretch their skill level. Assessments also help us see where each child is socially and give us a reference for motivating the child to grow into a well-rounded person.
Finally, we strive to include parents in all aspects of the learning environment. Parents receive input daily concerning their infant's day. Parents of toddlers and preschoolers are informed about the ongoing themes and how they can help and participate. Several family socials and programs are scheduled throughout the school year. Although field trips are not a part of our curriculum, we invite educational programming such as the zoo, the library, the Adventure Science Center, and others to come to our center on a regular basis.
Because our program offers the highest quality childcare, we often have a waiting list. You will be called and informed when an opening becomes available. If you find alternative care in the meantime, please let our center know so we can remove your child from the waiting list.
